SpeedBox 1.1 B.Tuning for Bosch Smart System (BES3)

The latest version of the SpeedBox for Bosch Smart System e-bikes has been optimised so that it is particularly resistant to Bosch tuning detection. It is therefore very unlikely that the pre-installed anti-tuning software of the Bosch Smart System will interfere with the SpeedBox 1.1. However, a maximum speed of 35 km/h should not be exceeded.

In contrast to the "normal" SpeedBox 1.1 chip, this "B.Tuning" variant is also compatible with the SpeedBox app, so that you benefit from various practical additional functions (see below).

The SpeedBox 1.1 is a tuning chip that completely cancels the 25 km/h speed limit of Bosch Smart System e-bikes (incl. models with SX motors). This enables much faster riding with full motor support.

With the SpeedBox 1.1 B.Tuning, the desired maximum speed can even be set to an individual value. However, you should not set a value above 35 km/h, as this could trigger the Bosch anti-tuning software! If you set a maximum speed above 35 km/h, you do so at your own risk.

Correct speed readable via SpeedBox app

With the SpeedBox 1.1, the e-bike display will no longer show correct riding data (e.g. the current speed).

With this B.Tuning variant, however, you have the option of having the real data shown on the smartphone display via the SpeedBox app.

We therefore recommend simply attaching your smartphone to the handlebars. This way you always have the data in view. You can find suitable mounts in our shop.

The total distance is shown correctly in the e-bike display, but only after the "countdown" (kilometre deduction) has expired at the end of the ride.

Tuning can be switched on and off

After connecting the chip, the tuning can be easily switched on and off via the app.

Alternatively, the tuning can also be activated / deactivated by briefly pressing the WALK button (hold down the "-" button). A short message appears on the E-Bike display to confirm: "3.5" = SpeedBox ON / "2.5" = SpeedBox OFF. Note: Switching on and off should not be carried out while riding.

On Bosch e-bikes where the WALK function is not available or not activated, tuning can also be activated / deactivated using the -+-+ button combination.

The manufacturer recommends leaving the e-bike switched on for a while after the end of the ride until the SpeedBox has completed the "countdown" (this is indicated by continuing the ride time on the display until it stops and the correct total distance is displayed) in order to avoid any tuning detection.

Setting the maximum speed

The maximum supported speed can be conveniently set via the app.

Alternatively, the maximum speed supported can also be changed by switching the modes from TURBO mode three steps down and then three steps up: eMTB - TOUR+ - ECO - TOUR+ - eMTB - TURBO. After this, the current speed limit is displayed. You can now adjust the maximum speed by briefly pressing the WALK button or by turning the rear wheel through 360°. A displayed speed of 2.5 km/h corresponds to a maximum speed of 25 km/h, 3.0 km/h would correspond to 30 km/h and 3.5 km/h would be 35 km/h, etc. The last displayed speed limit is automatically saved after 15 seconds of inactivity.

A maximum speed of 35 km/h should not be exceeded in order to avoid tuning detection by the Bosch system.

SpeedBox App

The SpeedBox 1.1 B.Tuning is compatible with the free SpeedBox app, which was specially developed for the SpeedBox tuning chips. Thanks to the app, you benefit from various additional features, e.g. you can display numerous useful data, save trips and share them with friends, etc. The connection between smartphone and SpeedBox chip is wireless via Bluetooth.

When you start the app for the first time, you will be asked to set a PIN. This PIN must be used each time you start the app. After selecting the PIN, you must also set a service password in case you forget the PIN at some point (or want to change it).

SpeedBox App - Features at a glance

-Tuning control: Switch the module on and off.

-Invisible mode (hide tuning): In this mode, tuning can no longer be activated via the control buttons on the e-bike.

-Setting the maximum auxiliary speed.

-Record and save journeys.

-Display of detailed riding parameters (e.g. speed, range, riding time, cadence, speed, power, battery values, energy consumption).

-Motor diagnostics.

Note: The app does not necessarily have to be used with the SpeedBox B.Tuning Chip. However, we recommend using the app as it contains many useful additional features.

Tip: Before ordering the SpeedBox 1.1 B.Tuning Chip, first download the SpeedBox app to your smartphone. Use the demo version to familiarise yourself with all the functions and to check whether the app is fully functional on your mobile phone (the smartphone must have at least Bluetooth 4.0 or higher).

Installation

The SpeedBox 1.1 B.Tuning is a module or chip that must be connected to the plug connections on the engine (to gain access to the plug connections, you must temporarily remove the engine cover). To simplify the connection, only original connectors are used in the production of the chip.

The SpeedBox does not require its own battery.

Important: Connect the male - female connectors in the direction of the lock. Do not rotate the connectors during connection!

To activate all SpeedBox functions correctly, you must call up the menu after installation when you switch on the E-Bike for the first time and enter the wheel circumference of the E-Bike.

Please note: If you want to install the SpeedBox 1.1 chip in a brand new e-bike, you must first ride at least 10 km on the e-bike before you switch on the tuning chip for the first time.

If necessary, the SpeedBox chip can be removed at any time if you want to restore the bike to its original condition.

SpeedBox 1.1 B.Tuning for Bosch Smart System – Compatibility

-This tuning tool is compatible with "Bosch Smart System" e-bikes, sometimes also referred to as "Bosch BES3", "Bosch Gen4 from 2022 onwards" or "Bosch Gen5".

-Also compatible with Bosch Performance Line SX motors (Smart System).

-Compatible with Bosch software version 11.13.0 / 12.13.0. Important note: Compatibility with software version 11.13.0 / 12.13.0 is only guaranteed for SpeedBox tuning modules ordered after May 2024. We strongly advise against updating to software version 11.13.0 / 12.13.0 for SpeedBoxes ordered before this date! In this case, the update could lead to incompatibilities with the SpeedBox Tuning.

-Compatible with all Bosch Smart System Displays (for example Kiox 300 or Intuvia 100).

-Compatible with SpeedBox app.

-Not compatible with Bosch Smart System e-bikes with magnet on the valve (rim magnet). Tip: If you have a Bosch Smart System e-bike with rim magnet, please select the SpeedBox 1.2 B.Tuning.

-Not compatible with Bosch Smart System e-bikes with ABS system!

A few more tips:

-Please do not carry out any Bosch updates after installing and using a tuning tool! Compatibility may no longer be guaranteed afterwards!

-During short breaks, you should keep one foot on the pedal to prevent the "countdown" process from starting so that you can continue riding seamlessly.

For longer stops, you should allow at least a partial "countdown" (kilometre deduction) to run through.

Do not remove the display from the E-Bike until the "countdown" is complete (after a longer ride, the countdown can take several minutes).

-Switching the tuning on and off should always be done before and not during the ride.

-The manufacturer recommends not exceeding a maximum speed of 35 km/h.

Tip: Bosch Smart System e-bikes (BES3) can be easily recognised by the charging cable plug, among other things.

SQUARE plug = Bosch Smart System BES3 (Gen4) + Bosch Gen5:

ROUND plug = Bosch Gen2, Gen3 & Gen4:

If your Bosch e-bike charging cable has a square plug (as shown above), you have selected the correct tuning module (provided the bike does not have ABS or a rim magnet). If your Bosch e-bike does not have either connector, you either do NOT have a Bosch e-bike or an e-bike with the old Gen1 drive (Classic Line).
