Bafang is an international manufacturer of complete systems and system components for electric vehicles, with the main focus on e-bikes and e-scooters. Bafang's headquarters and development site are both located in Suzhou, China, but the company is not only active in the Chinese market, but also in Europe and the USA.
In Europe in particular, Bafang is now one of the most successful players in the aforementioned market sector. In order to be closer to European customers, Bafang even opened a branch in the Netherlands in 2012.

Bafang e-bike motors
Bafang's product range includes not only high-quality e-bike motors, but also complete pedelec systems including batteries, HMIs and sensors that provide a particularly natural riding experience. By the way, the company produces rear-wheel, front-wheel and mid-mounted motors. At the beginning of 2015, Bafang presented the innovative Bafang Max Drive mid-mounted motor drive system, which quickly became very popular.
The Bafang Max Drive mid-mounted motor is available in different versions, namely in the 250 watt version for normal e-bikes with motor support up to 25 km/h, but also in a 350 watt version for the fast S-pedelecs (with motor support up to 45 km/h). In addition, the system is available with 24, 36 or 48 volts. A striking feature of the Bafang Max Drive is the high torque of 80 Nm, which makes the motor assistance quite powerful. In addition, the Bafang motor is considered extremely quiet, and thanks to a double bottom bracket sensor, zero-cadence reactions of the motor are now possible (similar to those known from Bosch drives). A practical push-assist is also provided.
The Bafang Max Drive drive is a modular system - this means that the respective e-bike manufacturers can choose between different components and combine them as they wish. The system consists of a motor, battery (down tube or luggage carrier), on-board computer with display and separate control element for the handlebar. The system is very easy to install. The drive must be installed directly in the frame, but should fit all standard bicycle frames. Due to the high quality and its long service life, the Bafang Max Drive drive can be used in a wide range of applications, e.g. city and trekking e-bikes, e-MTBs.

There is, for example, the H-series, which combines the Bafang front and rear motors. Models from this series are considered to be particularly cost-effective.
The M series, on the other hand, combines the Bafang mid-mounted motors. One of the highlights from this series would be the powerful Bafang M600 motor, which is particularly well suited for sporty e-mountain bikes. It has a rich torque of 120 Nm, a 600 Wh battery, 500 watts of power and weighs 3.7 kg. In contrast, the Bafang M800 motor is a real lightweight. With a very low weight of just 2.3 kg, this motor is ideal for e-racing bikes. It has a torque of 55 Nm, a 200 Wh battery and an output of 200 watts.
Can Bafang motors be optimised?
Yes, nowadays there is a whole range of tuning tools with which you can remove the preset speed limit of Bafang e-bikes. Especially for the popular Bafang Max Drive mid-mounted motors, there are highly recommendable tuning solutions.
