Bosch Gen1 motors (Classic Line)
The German company Bosch was already founded in 1886 and is primarily known as an automotive supplier as well as a manufacturer of industrial- and building-technology, consumer goods and automated packaging technology. In 2009, Bosch eBike Systems was launched - and with striking success. Bosch e-bike motors are now market leaders and are installed in over 50 e-bike brands - including such well-known ones as Bergamont, Bulls, Cannondale, Cube, Diamant, Flyer, Focus, Gazelle, Ghost, Giant, Grace, Haibike, Hercules, Kalkhoff, Kettler, Kreidler, KTM, Merida, Pegasus, Raleigh, Scott, Sinus, Univega, Winora and many others. The Bosch e-bike systems include not only the drive unit (motor), but also powerful batteries and an intuitively operated, smart on-board computer, whereby all components are perfectly coordinated with each other. Meanwhile, the 5th generation of Bosch motors is already on the market (Bosch Smart System 2022), but it all started with the Bosch Classic Line (Gen1).

All Bosch e-bike drives are mid-range motors, and this also applies to the Classic Line motor ("Drive Unit Cruise"). This motor was launched in 2011 and was intended to be equally suitable for leisurely cycling tours as well as for sporty riding - i.e. for city and trekking bikes, etc. The Classic Line drive had 250 watts of power, a torque of 50 Nm and provided support up to 25 km/h. A total of four riding modes were available. An innovative 3-sensor technology ensured the best possible set-up by detecting torque, speed and cadence over 200 times per second. In 2011, the Bosch Classic "Drive Unit Speed" followed with support up to 45 km/h.
