Sx2 dongle for Shimano E8000 e-bikes without Di2

Attention: With the new Shimano update [4.7.0.] many E-Bike tuning products do not work anymore. Please do not update!

The popular Sx2 dongle is now also available in a version especially for e-bikes with Shimano STEPS E8000 mid-mounted motors (but without Di2 electronic gears). This tuning tool removes the 25 km/h speed limit so that the motor continues to support you at higher speeds. You can easily activate the plugged-in dongle via the light switch of the e-bike. Since there is no direct intervention in the motor electronics, all Shimano riding modes are retained.

Easy connection thanks to the "Plug & Play" principle: The Sx2 dongle is housed in a compact jack plug, which you simply have to connect to the motor of the Shimano STEPS E8000 pedelec using the cable set supplied. An extra battery is not required. Thanks to the encapsulated electronics, the Sx2 dongle is robust and fully suitable for outdoor use.

How it works

The Sx2 Dongle works by dividing the transmitted speed from approx. 20 km/h by 2, which in turn results in an increase of the maximum motor support. Please note that due to this functional principle, your e-bike display will only show half of the real speed when tuning is activated.

Please specify the wheel diameter of your Shimano E8000 e-bike when ordering. The Sx2 dongle is available for 26", 27.5" / 28" and 29" wheels.

In addition, the Sx2 Dongle is also available in a version especially for Shimano E8000 e-bikes with a speed sensor on the wheel hub.

Important notes:

- In order to use this tuning tool, the light function on your e-bike must be activated. You can have the light function of your Shimano Steps e-bike activated at any time at your e-bike dealer or in your bicycle workshop - the corresponding equipment should be available there.

- The Sx2 dongle only works on e-bikes with Shimano STEPS E8000 motors that do not have Di2 electronic shifting.

Installation instructions

The Sx2 dongle comes with a power switch cable set "Plug & Play" with original Shimano connectors especially for Shimano STEPS E8000 motors. This cable set consists of a connector for the light (+) pole with cable lug and a plug and coupling.

First you have to remove the stone guard from the motor terminal compartment to gain access to the cable connections.

Then you have to disconnect the engine's speed sensor connector and connect it to the connector of the cable set. Then plug the coupling into the speed sensor connector.

Screw the red wire with the cable lug to the (+) power of the light connector.

Now carry out a function test: Activate the light on the display, put on the chain, jack up the rear wheel and slowly turn the pedal by hand. Observe whether the speedometer display works. If the display shows the speed, repeat the procedure with the Sx2 dongle inserted. Now the speedometer display should jump to half the value at a speed between 12 and 25 km/h. If this is the case, you have found the speedometer. If this is the case, you have connected the dongle correctly.

Reassemble everything and refit the stone guard. Make sure that the cable kit is fastened in such a way that the coupling and plug are protected from splash water and cannot get caught.
