SpeedBox 1.2 Tuning for Bosch Smart System with rim magnet
Tuning chip for e-bikes with the latest 4th generation Bosch motors with Smart System and Bosch rim magnet.
The SpeedBox 1.2 for Bosch BES3 removes the speed limit of Bosch e-bikes with Smart System drive (incl. Bosch SX motors). This allows you to ride significantly faster than 25 km/h with full motor support (a maximum of 35 km/h is recommended).
This version of the SpeedBox is specially designed for Bosch Smart System e-bikes with a rim magnet. Corresponding models can be recognised by the magnet on the rear wheel valve.
The tuning can be switched on and off using the WALK button.
Important: When tuning is active, the E-Bike display does not show the correct speed. However, the total distance is displayed correctly, but only after a "countdown" has elapsed at the end of the ride.
Our tip: If you would like to view the correct speed and all ride data during your ride, we recommend the "SpeedBox 1.2 B.Tuning" version, as this is also compatible with the practical SpeedBox app. You can use the app to view the real riding data on your smartphone display while on the move (suitable smartphone mounts for the handlebars are available in our shop).
Made in the Czech Republic.
How to use it
To activate all the functions of the SpeedBox correctly, it is necessary to enter the menu after the first switching on of the e-bike after the tuning installation and to switch to the circumference of the wheel of your e-bike.
Operating the tuning chip is simple. Tuning can be switched on by briefly pressing the WALK function (hold down the "-" button). To confirm, the display briefly shows the value 3.5 km/h (2.2 mph). Tuning is then active and the 25 km/h limit can be exceeded with motor support.
To switch off the tuning, simply press the WALK function again briefly (hold down the "-" button). The value 2.5 km/h (1.6 mph) is briefly shown on the display - this indicates that tuning has been deactivated; the speed limit is back to 25 km/h.
There are also e-bikes on which the WALK function is not available or active. In this case, the tuning can also be switched on and off by double switching between two modes, i.e. by pressing the - + - + button combination.
Setting the maximum speed
With the SpeedBox 1.2 you can set the level of maximum motor support individually. To do this, you must first change the modes as follows: TURBO - eMTB - TOUR+ - ECO - TOUR+ - eMTB - TURBO. The current speed limit is then displayed. You can now adjust the limit by briefly pressing the WALK function or turning the rear wheel 360°. A displayed speed of 2.5 km/h would correspond to a maximum speed of 25 km/h, 3.0 would be 30 km/h, 3.5 would correspond to 35 km/h, etc. The last displayed speed limit is saved after 15 seconds of inactivity.
Installation
SpeedBox 1.2 is a tuning chip that must be permanently connected to the e-bike. To simplify installation, original connectors are used in the production of the chip to ensure a correct connection.
Important:
Connect the plugs in the direction of the lock and do not rotate the connectors when plugging them in!
Important information
-A maximum speed of 35 km/h should not be exceeded.
-SpeedBox recommends not to update the software of the Bosch e-bike.
-Activation or deactivation of the tuning should always take place before the ride and not during the ride.
-Leave the E-Bike switched on for a while after the end of the ride until the SpeedBox has completed the "countdown" (indicated by the continuation of the ride time on the display until it stops and the correct ride distance is displayed) to avoid tuning detection by the Bosch software.
-If you want to install a SpeedBox 1.2 in a brand new e-bike, you must ride at least 10 km on this e-bike before you start the chip for the first time.
-During short breaks, you should keep one foot on the pedal so that the "countdown" deduction process does not start, so that you can continue riding seamlessly.
-During longer stops, you should allow at least a partial "countdown" (deduction of kilometres) to run through.
-Do not remove the display from the E-Bike until the "countdown" (deduction of kilometres) is complete.
Compatibility
The tuning chip is only compatible with Bosch Smart System (incl. Bosch SX) e-bikes with rim magnet.
-Compatible with all motors that are used with the Bosch Smart System, e.g. Performance Line (CX / CX Race / SX). Also compatible with Bosch SX motors!
-Compatible with all displays that are used with Bosch Smart System e-bikes.
-Compatible with Bosch software version 11.13.0 / 12.13.0. Important note: Compatibility with software version 11.13.0 / 12.13.0 is only guaranteed for SpeedBox Tuning modules ordered after May 2024. We strongly advise against updating to software version 11.13.0 / 12.13.0 for SpeedBoxes ordered before this date! In this case, the update could lead to incompatibilities with the SpeedBox Tuning.
Not compatible with:
-Bosch Smart System e-bikes with standard magnet (brake disc magnet spoke magnet).
-Bosch Smart System e-bikes with ABS system.
-SpeedBox App.
Important: As of Bosch firmware 9.13.0 of the Drive Unit (DU), compatibility is very limited. Therefore, this Speedbox is not compatible with Bosch firmware 9.13.0 for the time being. This also applies to other solutions for the Bosch rim magnet on the market.
Attention: Please note that the warranty for SpeedBox products does not apply to malfunctions caused by updating the motor. So please do not install any Bosch updates!
Tip: Bosch Smart System e-bikes (BES3) can be easily recognised by the charging cable plug, among other things.
SQUARE plug = Bosch Smart System BES3 (Gen4) + Bosch Gen5:
ROUND plug = Bosch Gen2, Gen3 & Gen4:
If your Bosch e-bike charging cable has a square plug (as shown above), you have selected the correct tuning module (provided the bike does not have ABS or a standard magnet). If your Bosch e-bike does not have either connector, you either do NOT have a Bosch e-bike or an e-bike with the old Gen1 drive (Classic Line).

Important: Tuning measures on e-bikes and e-scooters mean that they are no longer permitted for use on public roads. Legally permissible use is therefore only possible on private property or - if permitted - in competitions. Driving an e-bike or e-scooter modified by tuning measures on public roads can lead to criminal liability for driving without a license as well as driving without insurance coverage. Tuning measures on the e-bike and e-scooter can lead to a loss of warranty rights and manufacturer warranties. In addition, tuning measures can lead to a loss of insurance coverage and accident victim assistance benefits in the event of accidents. The e-bike (or e-scooter) modified by tuning measures is exposed to an additional load due to the higher speed, which can lead to safety risks.
