RimBoost: Chip for Bosch Smart System (BES3) with Rim Magnet

RimBoost is the first professional tuning for Bosch Smart System drives with rim magnet that works flawlessly. It is a tuning chip that removes the 25 km/h speed limit and enables motor support up to approx. 36 km/h. This allows much faster riding with full motor assistance.

Please note: This tuning tool is only intended for Bosch Smart System (BES3) e-bikes with a rim magnet. You can recognise these models by the fact that there is a rather large magnet with a speed sensor on the rear wheel valve.

Important: The RimBoost can still be ordered until 2 January 2024 at the special price of 239 euros. Delivery will be made in chronological order from 27.12.2023. It will then cost 279 euros from 2 January 2024.

The RimBoost chip is installed or interconnected in the engine compartment. In addition to the obligatory power supply, 2 cables run out of the chip: one contains an electromagnet, the other a new sensor.

The original rim magnet on the rear wheel valve must be removed so that it can no longer transmit signals to the original Bosch sensor. It is replaced by the sensor of the RimBoost chip (by the way, this is the same sensor that is located on the swing arm of the rear wheel on conventional Bosch e-bikes without a rim magnet).

This sensor now forwards a signal to the "new" electromagnet of the RimBoost Chip. The electromagnet must be placed on the outside of the motor housing with strong double-sided 3M adhesive tape, between the rear wheel and the sensor installed in the engine compartment. Thanks to a smart installation routine (information to follow), the optimal place for the magnet on the housing is easily found. The appearance of the e-bike is hardly changed, the magnet looks very inconspicuous.

After installing the RimBoost, a normal spoke magnet is added to the RimBoost sensor on the rear wheel, so that the appearance is hardly changed.

The additional spoke magnet as well as the necessary installation material are included in the delivery (cable ties, adhesive tape,...).

You may also need a suitable screwdriver to open the motor compartment (Torx, Allen,..) and a crank puller to loosen the motor cover (depending on the e-bike model).

The power supply for the chip is provided by the e-bike, a separate battery is not required.

Tip: You can attach the original rim magnet to the front wheel. This way you won't lose it and you will always be reminded that you have installed a tuning chip.

How it works

After installation, the RimBoost electromagnet will transmit a modified signal to the internal Bosch sensor in the engine compartment while riding, so that the motor assistance is increased from 25 km/h to approximately 36 km/h.

Please note: Thanks to the special operating principle, the e-bike display will no longer show correct values (speed etc.).

Tip: Simply use GPS-capable additional devices such as your smartphone to have the correct data displayed while you are on the road. Suitable mounts for the handlebars are available in our shop here.

No anti-tuning detection

The pre-installed Bosch anti-tuning detection is avoided with the RimBoost tuning. During extensive test rides (several thousand kilometres) no error messages were generated.

Please note: It is known that the notorious "524001 error" occasionally occurs on Bosch e-bikes even without tuning. For this reason, we cannot give a 100% guarantee that the error will not occur. However, this has never happened in any of our tests.

Deinstallation

If necessary, the RimBoost tuning can be undone at any time. All you have to do is remove the spoke magnet and reattach the original rim magnet. Afterwards, the e-bike has its original driving characteristics back (with motor support up to 25 km/h and correct data in the display).
