RedPed 2s for Shimano E-Series
Probably the most comprehensive tuning tool especially for e-bikes with Shimano Steps E-series motors (E8000, E7000, E6100, E6000, E5000), also compatible with Di2 gears. This tuning module is compatible with the practical RedPed 2 app, allowing you to benefit from a wide range of setting options. The app can also display a wide range of useful riding data while cycling.
Compared to its predecessor, the RedPed 2 Plus, the RedPed 2s has been further improved. The most important new feature is probably that the real speed can now be read in the e-bike display as a decimal number (i.e. via the second digit and the decimal place). The reset function has also been simplified. Another new feature is the option to perform a firmware update.
The main function of the RedPed 2s is the cancellation of the 25 km/h speed limit, which enables much faster riding with full motor support. With the help of the RedPed 2 app, the maximum supported speed can even be set to an individual value (up to 45 km/h). The app can also be used to set an individual activation code that can be used to switch the tuning on and off.
Note: After installation, the tuning can be activated/deactivated both via the app and via the operating buttons on the e-bike. It is therefore not necessary to take your smartphone with you on every ride.
RedPed 2: New features compared to the predecessor model (RedPed 2 Plus):
-Real speed readable as a decimal number in the e-bike display (previously only half of the real speed was displayed): From a speed of 22 km/h, the current speed is displayed via the second digit and the decimal place of the display (a displayed speed of 23.3 km/h would therefore correspond to a real speed of 33 km/h etc.). Of course, this only works with e-bike displays that show the speed with a decimal place.
-Very precise setting of the wheel circumference using the AUTO function. A correct setting of the wheel circumference is important for a correct speed display.
-“Mountain mode” for models with Di2 gears: As the divided speed generated by the RedPed module always lags one wheel revolution, Shimano e-bikes with Di2 gears can cause the W011 error at low speeds. The new function synchronises the speed of the bike and the RedPed while riding (this can result in small jumps in the speed display of the e-bike display).
-The tracking is now calculated automatically without having to enter the mileage.
-Easier reset of the module: All you have to do is switch on the e-bike and then plug the enclosed reset cable into the reset plug. After 20 seconds, the RedPed module is reset. The cable must then simply be removed again.
-Firmware updates possible (Android & iOS).
RedPed 2s for Shimano E-Series - Functions
-25 km/h speed limit is removed. This enables much faster riding with full motor support.
-Set maximum speed: The app can be used to set the maximum assisted speed to an individual value, from 15 km/h to 45 km/h ( 45 km/h is the theoretical maximum speed, the real achievable speed depends on various factors, e.g. chainring and motor).
-Display of detailed riding data via the app (see below).
-Tuning can be switched on and off via the app or using the light button. When activating with the light button, you can specify how often the light must be switched on and off to activate the tuning (press 0-20 times). The counter function shows how often the light has already been switched on and off.
-Use the app to set whether the tuning should only be active for one ride or permanently.
-Tuning timer: With this function, tuning is deactivated after a self-set time as soon as the bike has come to a standstill (between 10 and 180 seconds).
-Visibility: Here you can set how long the module should be visible in the app after the e-bike has been switched on. This can prevent unauthorised access by third parties.
-"Combination for visibility": Here you can set how often the light must be switched on and off to make the module visible. The counter shows how often the light has been switched on and off.
-"Divide speed at": Sets how the speed is to be divided (10-24 km/h). The higher the value is set, the better. However, if it is set too high, the assistance will stop before the maximum speed is reached. In this case, the set value must be reduced again.
-Enter the wheel diameter: The exact specification of the wheel diameter ensures an exact speed display as a decimal number in the e-bike display (AUTO function).
-Show real speed in the display as a decimal number (yes / no).
-Switch mountain mode on and off (see above).
-Tracking: This value shows how many KM the motor is missing due to speed dividing.
-Optional correct kilometre reading after the module has been removed again.
Data display via app
The RedPed app not only allows you to define the settings of the RedPed module, you can also display numerous useful riding parameters while cycling. You have the option of adjusting the display to your personal preferences - e.g. you can hide values, change the colours of columns and rows, etc. You can also change the font size in the settings (Android) or zoom into the speedometer (iPhone).
Here are the driving parameters displayed (always real values):
- Tuning status (on/off)
- Correct speed & real distance travelled
- Maximum speed
- Riding time
- Average speed
- Mileage
Firmware update
If required, a firmware update for the RedPed 2s module can be carried out (Android & iOS). To do this, open the menu in the app and click on "Firmware Update". The "RedPed Version" shows the current firmware. The "Image Version", on the other hand, is the latest version. If this is higher than the "RedPed Version", the "Start Update" button is automatically displayed. As soon as you press the button, the update is started. After the update, the module restarts, whereby all settings are retained. The e-bike must not be switched off during the update.
Installation & functionality
The RedPed 2s module has to be connected between the speed sensor and the motor (to gain access to the required connectors, the protective cover of the motor has to be removed briefly). In most cases, the module can be placed in the connection area of the motor (sometimes also in the frame tube). More detailed information can be found in the operating instructions. The RedPed does not require its own battery, as the power is supplied via a free display socket.
The RedPed 2s module is robust, as the electronics of the module have been coated with a layer of varnish and are also protected by a shrink sleeve with internal adhesive.
Once installed, the RedPed module measures the actual speed and generates its own speed signal for the engine control unit. This generates a lower speed, so that the 25 km/h speed limit can be exceeded. As a result, you can ride much faster with full motor support.
You can find detailed installation and operating instructions here.
Compatibility
This RedPed 2s module is compatible with:
-E-bike motors from the Shimano E-series:

Important: Tuning measures on e-bikes and e-scooters mean that they are no longer permitted for use on public roads. Legally permissible use is therefore only possible on private property or - if permitted - in competitions. Driving an e-bike or e-scooter modified by tuning measures on public roads can lead to criminal liability for driving without a license as well as driving without insurance coverage. Tuning measures on the e-bike and e-scooter can lead to a loss of warranty rights and manufacturer warranties. In addition, tuning measures can lead to a loss of insurance coverage and accident victim assistance benefits in the event of accidents. The e-bike (or e-scooter) modified by tuning measures is exposed to an additional load due to the higher speed, which can lead to safety risks.
