The RedPed 3 for Giant is a tuning module that offers an unusually large number of optimisation options - it is probably the most comprehensive tuning tool for Giant e-bikes ever. The core function is of course the removal of the 25 km/h speed limit of the Giant motor, but the RedPed 3 offers much more:

For example, there is the possibility to set the level of the maximum assisted speed to an individual value (from 15-45 km/h). Other original additional functions include "Speed Offset" or the "Troll Mode".

All settings can be set conveniently via the Redped app (Android / iOS). The app also has the advantage that it can display many interesting riding parameters and performance data. This means you always have an overview - not only of your own performance, but also that of your e-bike.

By the way, it is by no means necessary to take your smartphone with you every time you go for a ride on your Giant e-bike. The tuning can also be activated / deactivated via the control buttons of your bike. Basically, it is enough to make the desired settings once using the app.

Tip: If you want to keep an eye on the ride data displayed in the app, you should attach your smartphone directly to the handlebars with a special holder while riding.

By the way: Even with active tuning, the e-bike display will still show correct data, e.g. the real speed and the distance travelled.

New functions

The RedPed 3 for Giant now has the same enormous range of functions as the popular RedPed 3 for Bosch. Compared to the Redped 3 for Bosch, however, there are even a number of improvements:

-Max Speed up to 45 km/h does not have to be separately activated like with the RedPed 3 for Bosch (with the RedPed 3 for Bosch, the maximum speed can normally only be set to a level of 15-32 km/h - it is also possible to increase this to up to 45 km/h, but this function first has to be separately activated via the app).

-Improved tuning activation than with the RedPed 3 for Bosch.

In short, there is hardly a better and more comprehensive tuning solution for Giant e-bikes than the RedPed 3 module.

RedPed 3 for Giant - Functions & Features at a Glance

-Removal of the 25 km/h speed limit.

-The maximum supported speed can be set to a desired value of 15 - 45 km/h via the app (this is the theoretical maximum speed, the real achievable maximum speed depends on various factors, such as the chainring).

-Tuning activation: You can activate and deactivate the tuning via the RedPed app or with the control buttons on the e-bike (using the light and walk button).

-Set whether the tuning should always be active or only for 1 ride.

-Even when tuning is active, the e-bike display shows correct values (current speed, distance travelled, etc.).

-Tuning Timer: This function deactivates the tuning after a self-set time (between 10 and 180 seconds).

-"Visibility": Here you can set how long the RedPed 3 module can be found in the app after you have switched on the e-bike. This allows you to prevent unauthorised access.

-“Speed Offset": You can reduce the speed shown on the e-bike display by a value of your choice, namely from 0 - 15 km/h. Example: If you set a value of -10 km/h and ride at a speed of (e.g.) 35 km/h, the display will only show a speed of 25 km/h, etc. The mileage will still be calculated correctly. -"Troll mode": In this mode, a deliberate error is caused in the e-bike if no smartphone has connected to the RedPed module within a set time. The troll mode can be used to annoy people who have access to the e-bike but are not actually supposed to ride it.

-"Workshop mode": If this mode is set, the CAN BUS data is not manipulated by the RedPed module. This can be useful, for example, if you have to take the e-bike to the workshop.

-"Divide speed at": Here you can set how the speed is to be divided (10-24 km/h).

-Set PIN. Set a 6-digit PIN to protect the RedPed module from unauthorised access.

-Set module name (9 digits).

-Enter wheel diameter (18.7" - 31.2").

Data display via app

With the RedPed app you can not only control the settings of the RedPed module, you can also display a lot of useful riding data and parameters. You can customise the look of the app according to your own preferences (change colours of certain values, hide values, etc.). Here is a selection of the most important parameters displayed:

With Android mobile phones there is the possibility to change the font size in the settings, with iPhones it is possible to zoom into the speedometer.

RedPed 3 for Giant - Installation & Functionality

The RedPed 3 is a module that has to be connected between the motor and the speed sensor as well as between the motor and the display. To gain access to the plug connections, the motor protection cover must be removed briefly during installation. On many e-bike models, the module can be mounted directly in the connection area of the motor; alternatively, it can also be placed in the frame tube (however, this usually requires detaching the motor from the frame).

After installation and successful setup, the module measures the actual speed and generates its own speed signal for the motor control. Since it generates a lower speed in the process, the factory 25 km/h speed limit is outsmarted or cancelled. Due to this functional principle, various values, such as the mileage, are calculated incorrectly by the motor control unit - however, the data is corrected again by the RedPed 3 module as long as it is connected (after starting the e-bike, the module disconnects the communication between the motor control unit and the e-bike display in order to send its own correct data to the display).
