RedPed for Shimano EP6 / EP801
No more 25 km/h speed limit!
Finally, the popular RedPed module is also available in a version specifically for Shimano EP6 / EP801 e-bike drives.
Hardly any other tuning module is as versatile in its range of functions. Thanks to its compatibility with the practical Redped 2 app, it offers an extremely wide range of optimization options. You can also display many useful riding parameters on the go.
Despite the new Shimano anti-tuning software, the RedPed works very reliably; the susceptibility to errors is extremely low. We therefore give this high-end tuning product a very special recommendation!
A major innovation compared to the previous modules is that, for the first time, the real speed can still be read on the e-bike display, albeit as a decimal number (i.e. via the second digit and the decimal place).
The reset function has also been greatly simplified. There is also a so-called “mountain mode” especially for Shimano e-bikes with Di2 gears.
Another new option is the ability to perform firmware updates on the module. This means that the tuning can be updated and improved as required.
The core function of the Redped module is the removal of the preset 25 km/h speed limit. The maximum speed can be set to a desired value via the app: 33 km/h as standard, but also up to 45 km/h at your own risk.
There is also the option to set an individual activation code to switch the tuning on and off.
Note: After installation, you can activate/deactivate the tuning via the app, but also via the e-bike's operating buttons. It is therefore not mandatory to take your smartphone with you on every ride.
New features compared to the previous module:
-Real speed can be read as a decimal number in the e-bike display (previously only half of the real speed was displayed): From approx. 22 km/h, the current speed is displayed via the second digit and the decimal place in the display (a displayed speed of 23.2 km/h would therefore correspond to a speed of 32 km/h in reality, etc.). This function is of course only available on E-Bike displays that show the speed with a decimal place.
-Very precise setting of the wheel circumference using the AUTO function. Correct setting of the wheel circumference is important for a correct speed display.
-Mountain mode for Shimano e-bikes with Di2 gears. Background: As the divided speed generated by the RedPed module always lags one wheel revolution, models with Di2 gears can cause error W011 at low speeds. The mountain mode function synchronizes the speed of the bike and the RedPed module while riding (however, this can lead to small jumps in the speed display of the e-bike display).
-Easier reset: Performing a module reset is now easier than ever before. Simply switch on the e-bike and plug the supplied reset cable into the reset plug. The RedPed will then reset after 20 seconds. Then simply remove the cable again.
-Firmware updates possible (via the RedPed 2 app).
RedPed for Shimano EP6 / EP801 - Functions
-25 km/h speed limit is removed. This enables much faster riding with full motor support.
-Maximum speed can be set: Using the RedPed app, the maximum assisted speed can be set to a desired value, between 15 and 33 km/h. This limit was chosen because the new Shimano anti-tuning software could kick in at higher speeds.
-There is also the option to increase the max speed up to 45 km/h on your own. However, this option is not recommended, as the tuning could be detected by the new Shimano anti-tuning software at speeds above 33 km/h. Upgrading is therefore at your own risk. Important: The increase to 45 km/h cannot be reversed, not even with a reset (the 45 km/h is the theoretical maximum speed, the actual achievable speed depends on various factors, e.g. chainring, slope, etc.).
-Display of detailed riding data via the app (see below).
-Tuning can be activated/deactivated either via the app or with the light button. When activating using the light button, you can specify how often the light must be switched on and off to switch on the tuning module (press 0-20 times). The counter function shows you how often the light has already been switched on and off.
-The app can be used to set whether the tuning should be active permanently or only for one journey.
-Tuning timer: With the tuning timer function, the tuning is deactivated after a self-set time as soon as you have brought the e-bike to a standstill (between 10 and 180 seconds).
-“Visibility”: Here you can specify how long the Redped module should be visible in the app after the e-bike has been switched on. This allows you to prevent unauthorized access by third parties.
-“Combination for visibility": Set how often the light must be switched on and off to make the module visible. The counter shows you how often the light has been switched on and off.
-“Divide speed at”: Here you can set how the speed should be divided (10-24 km/h). The higher the value is set, the better. However: If it is set too high, the motor assistance will stop before the set maximum speed is reached. If this is the case, you must reduce the set value again.
-Enter the wheel diameter: By entering the exact wheel diameter, you ensure that the exact speed is shown as a decimal number in the e-bike display (AUTO function).
-Set whether the E-Bike display should show the real speed as a decimal number (yes / no).
-Activate / deactivate mountain mode (see above).
Important note: Due to the new tuning detection, the coasting has been deactivated (“not active”) in the RedPed 2s settings for Shimano EP6 / EP801. This means that you can only see how many kilometers the motor is missing by dividing the speed. However, this can no longer be compensated for; the coasting can therefore not be activated.
Display of riding parameters via the Redped 2 app
The RedPed app allows you to conveniently configure the settings of the RedPed module. In addition, you can view numerous useful riding data on your smartphone display while riding. You have the option of customizing the display to suit your preferences. For example, you can hide individual values or change the colors of columns and rows. You can also change the font size (Android) or zoom into the speedometer (iOS).
Here are the driving parameters displayed; always real values:
Tuning status (on/off)
Real speed
Real distance traveled
Maximum speed
Average speed
Trip duration
Odometer reading
The connection between the module and the smartphone app is made wirelessly via Bluetooth.
Firmware update
This tuning module has the immense advantage that it offers the possibility of firmware updates (Android & iOS). Simply open the menu in the app and click on “Firmware Update”. The current firmware is displayed under “RedPed Version”; the “Image Version” is the latest version. If this is higher than the “RedPed Version”, the “Start Update” button is automatically displayed. As soon as you press the button, the update will start. After the update, the RedPed module restarts (all settings are retained). Please note that the e-bike must not be switched off during the update.
Installation & mode of operation
The RedPed is a module that must be connected to the plug connections on the motor (see below for detailed installation instructions and an example video). The module can usually be placed in the connection area of the motor (sometimes also in the frame tube). Once installed, the module is not visible from the outside.
The RedPed module does not require its own battery; power is supplied via the e-bike.
To install the tuning chip, the motor protection cover must be temporarily removed. The connection is extremely simple - here is an example instruction for a Shimano EP6 e-bike:
- Disconnect the speed sensor plug from the motor.
- Insert the “winged” plug of the RedPed chip into the speed sensor socket on the e-bike.
- Then insert the speed sensor plug of the e-bike into the module socket labeled “Speed”.
- Screw the blue cable lug into the positive pole of the light connection.
- Screw the red cable lug into the positive pole of the ACC connection.
- Switch on the e-bike and check whether the RedPed module is found in the app.
- Turn the wheel and check whether a speed is shown in the e-bike display.
- The module can now be stowed away; with EP6 drives, the area directly above the motor is often suitable.
- Screw the motor housing back on.
Tools required: Cross-head screwdriver (for removing the motor protection cover). In some cases, other tools may also be required.
Here is a YouTube video with an installation example on a Shimano EP6 motor:
Important Note:
The ACC connection must be activated for the tuning to work correctly with EP801 and EP6 drives! Unfortunately, this is not the case with all models.
If the ACC connection cannot be activated, the module can alternatively be connected to the light. The disadvantage of this solution is that activation via the light is not possible in this case, and the light must always be switched on.
To make the RedPed robust and resistant, the electronics of the module have been specially coated with a layer of paint. Further protection is provided by a shrink tube with internal adhesive.
After installation, the RedPed module measures the current speed and generates its own speed signal for the engine control unit. In doing so, the module transmits a lower speed so that the 25 km/h speed limit is outwitted. As a result, you can ride much faster with full engine support.
Compatibility
This RedPed module is only compatible with e-bikes with the following drive system:
-Shimano EP6 (motor firmware 4.2.2)
-Shimano EP801 (motor firmware 4.2.2)
Important: Compatibility can only be guaranteed up to the motor firmware versions specified above.
-Compatible with all displays
-Compatible with models with or without Di2 shifting
-Not compatible with EP8!
--Attention: Light or ACC connection must be enabled.
Attention:
-Please do not carry out any updates on your Shimano EP6 / EP801 e-bike after installing the Redped module. The tuning may no longer work afterwards; in addition, the installed anti-tuning software may become active.
-The ACC connection must be activated for the tuning to work correctly with EP801 and EP6 drives! Unfortunately, this is not the case with all models. If the ACC connection cannot be activated, the module can alternatively be connected to the light. The disadvantage of this solution is that activation via the light is not possible in this case, and the light must always be switched on.

Important: Tuning measures on e-bikes and e-scooters mean that they are no longer permitted for use on public roads. Legally permissible use is therefore only possible on private property or - if permitted - in competitions. Driving an e-bike or e-scooter modified by tuning measures on public roads can lead to criminal liability for driving without a license as well as driving without insurance coverage. Tuning measures on the e-bike and e-scooter can lead to a loss of warranty rights and manufacturer warranties. In addition, tuning measures can lead to a loss of insurance coverage and accident victim assistance benefits in the event of accidents. The e-bike (or e-scooter) modified by tuning measures is exposed to an additional load due to the higher speed, which can lead to safety risks.
