With this tuning tool, e-bikes with Shimano EP8 motors with electric DI2 can be optimised or made faster. The RedPed 2plus module removes the preset 25 km/h speed limit so that you can ride significantly faster with full motor support. The module is conveniently controlled via the RedPed app, which offers you various setting options. For example, you can set the maximum level of motor support to an individual value (from 15 to 45 km/h).

Important note: The e-bike display will only show half of the actual speed. The range and kilometre reading will also no longer be calculated correctly. However, you can have the real riding data, such as the current speed and the distance covered, displayed via the app. We therefore recommend simply attaching the smartphone to the handlebars so that you can keep an eye on all the data while riding - you can find suitable mounts in our shop.

Attention: Please do not carry out any updates on your Shimano e-bike.

After you have defined the settings of the RedPed 2plus module, you can activate the tuning module both via the app and via the control buttons of the e-bike. So it is by no means necessary to always take your smartphone with you.

RedPed 2plus for Shimano EP8 with DI2 - Functions & features at a glance

25 km/h speed limit is lifted.

Maximum speed freely adjustable: Via the app, the maximum supported speed can be set to an individual value between 15 - 45 km/h (please note that the 45 km/h is the theoretical maximum speed - the real achievable speed depends on other factors, e.g. chainring and motor).

Tuning activation with app: Set whether the tuning should only be on for one ride or always.

Tuning activation with e-bike: Alternatively, the tuning can also be activated by switching the light on and off. You can individually set how often the light has to be switched on and off to activate the tuning (0 to 20 times). A counter shows you how often the light has already been switched on and off.

Tuning Timer: This function deactivates the tuning after a self-set time (between 10 and 180 seconds).

"Visibility": Here you can set how long the module should be visible or findable in the app after the e-bike has been switched on. This prevents unauthorised access by third parties.

"Combination for visibility": Here you can set how long the light must be switched on and off to make the module visible again.

"Split speed at": Here you can set how the speed is to be split (10-24 km/h).

Set individual PIN. Set a 6-digit PIN to protect the module from unauthorised access.

Set module name (9-digit).

Optionally correct odometer reading after reassembling the module.

Data display via app

The RedPed app not only allows you to adjust the settings of the tuning module, it can also show you useful riding parameters on the go. You can customise the display according to your personal preferences - e.g. you can hide values or change the colours of columns & rows. You can also change the font size in the settings (Android) or zoom into the speedometer (iPhone).

Compared to the previous RedPed 2 for Shimano, the new RedPed 2plus for Shimano has the following change and optimisation:

-On some Shimano motors, the slots for DI2 are occupied. This is where the RedPed 2plus module comes into play. An additional 4-way distributor + cable are no longer necessary here.

RedPed 2plus for Shimano EP8 with DI2 - Installation & Functionality

RedPed 2plus is a module that must be connected between the speed sensor and the motor. The RedPed 2plus module measures the actual speed and generates its own speed signal for the engine control unit. By generating a supposedly lower speed signal, the 25 km/h speed limit is outsmarted. This makes it possible to drive much faster than 25 km/h with full engine support.

Due to this special mode of operation, however, various values, such as the mileage, are calculated incorrectly. However, the correct values can be read out via the RedPed app.

The RedPed 2plus module is powered via a free display socket, so a separate battery is not required (the module is always on).

To connect the RedPed 2plus module, you need access to the connectors on the motor. To do this, you need to temporarily remove the motor cover.

Special tools may be needed to install the module, for an EP8 drive this would be a Phillips screwdriver. Other tools may be necessary.
