RedPed 2 for Shimano E-Series

A tuning module especially for e-bikes from the Shimano Steps E-Series, also compatible with Di2 gears. Since it is conveniently controlled via the RedPed app, you benefit from a wide range of setting options.

The core function clearly is the removal of the 25 km/h speed limit, so that you can ride much faster with full motor support. Thanks to the app, there is the option to set the level of maximum assisted speed to an individually desired value (from 15 to 45 km/h).

Please note that the e-bike display only shows half of the real speed when tuning is active. The kilometre reading and range will then also not be calculated correctly. However, you can have the correct data displayed via the RedPed app.

In general, the RedPed app has the great advantage that it can show you a wide range of riding data and parameters while you are on the road. We therefore recommend attaching your smartphone directly to the handlebar so that you have an optimal view of all data - you can find suitable mounts directly in our shop "here".

Attention: Please do not carry out any updates on your Shimano e-bike.

However, it is not necessary to take your mobile phone with you every time you ride your e-bike. Basically, it is sufficient to define the desired settings of the RedPed 2 module once. You can then switch the tuning on and off either via the app or using the control buttons on the bike (light button).

RedPed 2 for Shimano E-Series - Functions & Features at a glance

-Removal of the 25 km/h speed limit.

-Maximum speed can be set individually: Via the app, the maximum supported speed can be set to an individual value between 15 - 45 km/h (the 45 km/h is the theoretical maximum speed, the real achievable speed depends on other factors, such as chain ring and motor).

-Individual activation code can be set via the RedPed app.

-Tuning activation with app: You can set whether the tuning should only be activated for the respective ride or always.

-Tuning activation via e-bike: Alternatively, you can also activate the tuning by switching the light on and off. You can determine how often the light has to be switched on and off to activate the tuning (press 0-20 times).

-Tuning Timer: This function deactivates the tuning after a self-set time (between 10 and 180 seconds).

-"Visibility": Set how long the module should be detectable in the app after the e-bike has been switched on. This can prevent unauthorised access by third parties.

-"Combination for visibility": Here you can set how often the light must be switched on and off to make the module visible.

"Split speed at": Here you can set how the speed will be split (10-24 km/h).

-Set PIN. Set a 6-digit PIN to protect the module from unauthorised access.

-Set module name (9-digit).

-Optionally, correct mileage after the RedPed 2 module has been removed again.

Data display via app

With the RedPed app, you can not only define the tuning settings, you can also display useful riding data while on the road. To make the display clearer, individual adjustments are possible - for example, values can be hidden and colours of columns & rows can be changed. In addition, the font size can be changed (Android) or you can zoom into the speedometer (iPhone).

RedPed 2 for Shimano E-Series - Installation & Functionality

RedPed 2 is a module that needs to be connected between the motor and the speed sensor. After installation, the RedPed 2 will measure the current speed and generate its own speed signal for the motor control unit. Overcoming the 25 km/h speed limit becomes possible by generating a lower speed signal. This allows the e-bike to travel much faster with full motor assistance.

Important note: Due to this mode of operation, various values, such as the mileage, are calculated incorrectly by the motor control unit. However, the correct values can be read out via the smartphone with the RedPed app.

Attention: A distributor+cable is required if there is no longer a free display socket in the motor. For the Shimano E-series, this is "SM-JC41" (4-way distributor) and "EW-SD50" (extension).

The RedPed 2 module does not need its own battery, as power is supplied via a free display socket. The module is always on.

To connect the RedPed 2 module, you need access to the plug connections on the motor. To do this, the motor cover must be temporarily removed.

Depending on the motor type, special tools may be needed to install the module, e.g. for the Shimano Steps E8000 motor you will need a 2.5 mm Allen key and a Phillips screwdriver. Other tools may also be needed in some circumstances.
