1. Introduction & General
What is the EBT Unlock Key?
The EBT Unlock Key is a digital tuning tool that removes the speed limit from Bosch e-bikes with Gen1–Gen4 motors. Unlocking is performed directly via browser and USB connection — no software installation required.
Who is EBT intended for?
The EBT Unlock Key is designed for tech-savvy users who want to remove their e-bike’s factory limitation for private use or sporting purposes — especially e-MTB riders.
How does EBT differ from conventional tuning chips?
EBT works completely without hardware intervention. It’s a software-based change triggered by a license key through a web application. No chip, no opening of the motor — no visible modifications.
2. Compatibility & Technical Requirements

Which Bosch motors are compatible?
Supported: Bosch Classic+ (Gen1, only with Intuvia display), Active Line & Performance Line (Gen2), Active Line Plus & Performance (Gen3), Performance CX (Gen4), with BES1 or BES2 systems.
Does EBT Unlock Key work with Bosch Smart System (BES3)?
No, not yet. A solution is in development.
Which displays are compatible?
Supported: Intuvia, Purion, Kiox (1st gen), Nyon (classic).
Not supported: HMI, Kiox 300, Intuvia 100.
What is required to use EBT Unlock Key?
A Windows or Mac computer, Chrome/Edge/Safari, a USB cable (Micro/Mini-USB), and a compatible e-bike.
How do I find out whether a Bosch Gen4 e-bike is a BES2 or BES3 (Smart System)?
You can easily find out yourself by comparing the charging plugs: The EBT Unlock Key is also compatible with a round charging plug.

Smartphones or tablets?
No. WebUSB only works on desktop browsers.
Supported OS?
Windows 10/11, macOS. Linux, iOS, Android not supported.
3. Application & Functionality

How does unlocking work?
You receive a URL and license code via email. Connect your bike, enter the code, and you're done.
Can I deactivate tuning?
Yes, at any time on the same bike — as often as you want.
What does the display show after tuning?
Gen2–4: Half speed (e.g. 25 km/h = 12.5 km/h). Gen1: Correct speed. See comparision.
Deactivate tuning while riding?
Only with a laptop + internet. Not via smartphone.
Permanent change?
No. Only parameter changes; firmware stays untouched.
4. Licensing & Purchase
How does the license model work?
Each key is for one specific bike. Multi-bike use requires multi-license. See all license offers.
Use on multiple bikes?
Only with a multi-license. A single license is not transferable.
Can I return the license?
No. Activation equals delivery. § 356 (5) BGB applies.
5. Legal Information
Is tuning legal on public roads?
No. The bike becomes a motor vehicle — insurance, registration, and license required.
Where can I use a tuned bike?
Private property or closed areas. Public roads: only with legal registration.
Legal consequences?
Fines, penalty points, and even criminal charges possible.
Warranty void?
Yes. Manufacturer warranty and liability no longer apply.
Can tuning be detected?
Yes, possibly during Bosch service checkups.
6. Display Behavior
Correct speed display?
Gen2–4: Halved. Gen1: Correct.
Adjustable?
No. Halved display is a technical limitation.
7. Cables & USB Connection
Which cable do I need?
Purion: Micro-USB
Intuvia: Mini-USB
Kiox/Nyon: Micro or special cable
Regular USB cable okay?
Only if it supports data transfer.
