EBT Unlock Key
Unlock Your Bosch E-Bike – Browser-Based Tuning
Compatible solutions for Bosch Gen1–Gen4 (BES1 & BES2) and Bosch Smart System (BES3)
Browser-based Bosch tuning solutions allow compatible Bosch e-bike systems to be unlocked without chip installation, complicated apps or motor opening. Depending on the Bosch system, the correct solution is either the EBT Unlock Key or the EBTsmart Unlock Key.
- No chip installation
- No motor opening required
- No classic software installation
- Fully digital and reversible
- Separate solutions for classic Bosch systems and Bosch Smart System
Whether you ride a classic Bosch drive unit or a newer Bosch Smart System bike, this page helps you understand the correct browser-based solution path.
Bosch Tuning without Chip
Browser-based Bosch tuning is a modern alternative to traditional hardware-based tuning products. Instead of opening the motor or installing a chip, compatible Bosch systems can be accessed digitally via USB and browser connection.
For classic Bosch Gen1–Gen4 bikes, the relevant route is usually the EBT Unlock Key. For Bosch Smart System / BES3 bikes, the relevant route is usually the EBTsmart Unlock Key.
EBT Unlock Key vs. EBTsmart Unlock Key
The first and most important step is to identify your Bosch system correctly. The EBT Unlock Key and the EBTsmart Unlock Key are not interchangeable products. They are designed for different Bosch architectures.

EBT Unlock Key
The browser-based solution for many compatible Bosch Gen1–Gen4 e-bikes on BES1 and BES2.
- For many classic Bosch systems
- Uses USB and browser connection
- No chip, no dongle, no motor disassembly
- License-based digital unlock
- Reversible via browser platform
Typical examples include Bosch Gen1 with Intuvia, Bosch Gen2, Bosch Gen3 and classic Bosch Gen4 on BES2.

The browser-based main solution for Bosch Smart System / BES3, including many compatible setups with and without rim magnet.
- For Bosch Smart System / BES3
- Uses USB and browser connection
- 32 km/h mode with correct speed, distance and mileage values
- Optional higher unlock depending on configuration
- Compatibility depends on BDU, rim magnet, ABS and eShift logic
Typical examples include modern Bosch Smart System bikes that must be checked by BDU, rim magnet, ABS and eShift configuration.

Bosch compatibility should not be judged only by marketing names such as Gen4, Gen5 or CX. The more reliable approach is to distinguish between BES1, BES2 and BES3. For Smart System, BDU, rim magnet, ABS and eShift must also be checked.
| Feature | BES1 | BES2 | BES3 / Bosch Smart System |
|---|---|---|---|
| Typical Bosch generation | Gen1 | Gen2, Gen3, classic Gen4 | Bosch Smart System, Gen4 Smart System, Gen5 |
| Main unlock path | EBT Unlock Key | EBT Unlock Key | EBTsmart Unlock Key |
| Typical charging port rule | Classic Bosch platform | Usually round charging port | Usually square Smart System charging port |
| Maximum unlock / speed logic | Vmax unlocked, depending on configuration | Vmax unlocked, depending on configuration | 32 km/h mode; optional higher unlock depending on configuration |
| Display behavior | Gen1 with Intuvia can retain correct values | Many Gen2–Gen4 systems show modified values during riding | 32 km/h mode keeps correct values; optional higher mode may change displayed values |
| ABS | Not supported by EBT Unlock Key | Not supported by EBT Unlock Key | Supported only up to 32 km/h; optional 45 km/h mode not available with ABS |
| Rim magnet logic | Not the deciding Smart System rule | Not the deciding Smart System rule | Works with and without rim magnet depending on configuration |
| Special selection logic | Display type matters on Gen1 | System distinction matters, especially on Gen4 | BDU → rim magnet → ABS → eShift |
| Known exclusions | Gen1 HMI not supported | Smart System not part of this path | Depends on BDU, ABS, rim magnet and firmware status |
| Reset / reversibility | Reversible via browser platform | Reversible via browser platform | Reversible via browser platform |
Important: The EBTsmart Unlock Key Switch is not a general requirement for all Smart System bikes. It is a separate special solution for certain Smart System configurations with rim magnet.
