About CONTI eBIKE SYSTEM
Continental AG is a well-known Hanover-based company that has developed over the years from a pure tyre manufacturer into one of the world's largest automotive suppliers. At the Eurobike exhibition in 2014, CONTI eBIKE SYSTEM (CeBS for short) presented its own e-bike drive system. One of the first pedelecs to be equipped with the Conti eBike System drive was the A2B Entz 2015 - the special feature of this model was that, unlike many other drive systems, the Conti motor was integrated directly in the centre of the frame. Unfortunately, CONTI e-bike drives were apparently never able to establish themselves on the market on a large scale: As announced at the end of 2019, Conti has now withdrawn from the e-bike business.
Conti e-bike motors
The CONTI eBIKE SYSTEM drive system consisted of several high-quality components that were optimally matched to each other: Mid-mounted motor, display, control unit, battery (luggage carrier or down tube) and charger. The modular system as a whole had the advantage that it could be integrated very easily into any bicycle concept, which gave e-bike manufacturers the greatest possible flexibility in designing their models - for example, no major changes to the frame had to be taken into account.
Conti produced various e-bike motors. Well known was the Continental Revolution with integrated planetary gear. It was a 48 V motor that was quite powerful with a torque of 70 Nm and an assistance of 380 %. A positive feature was the possibility of integrating a convenient automatic gear shift directly into the drive unit.
The Continental Revolution also had a little brother called Continental Prime. Since this engine did not have an integrated gearbox, it was considerably more compact and lighter than the Continental Revolution. However, the Continental Prime also had a convincing torque of 70 Nm.
Can Conti e-bike motors be optimised?
Yes, even if the number of tuning tools for Conti e-bike drive systems is very small, there is or was at least one tuning solution for Conti motors - the so-called “DoubleDongle” (sold out).
