This is a simple but highly effective tuning tool especially for Shimano e-bikes with a Shimano sensor SM-DUE11 integrated in the dropout. The Badass Box 4 completely removes the 25 km/h speed limit, so that the full potential of the powerful Shimano drives can finally be used. There are no further functions with this tuning tool. With the Badass Box 4, the annoying 25 km/h speed limit of your Shimano e-bike is finally a thing of the past - and you can ride much faster with full motor support.

The Badass Box 4, together with the screwed-on speed sensor, must be attached to the chain stay of the Shimano e-bike.

Important: Please note that a small modification to your e-bike is necessary to mount the Badass Box 4 Shimano 2020. Please read the installation instructions below before you decide to order this tuning tool.

Before ordering, you should also check whether the cable of your sensor can be pulled out of the dropout far enough so that the sensor can be attached to the chain stay in front of the brake disc. Only then can the sensor be used together with the Badass Box 4.

Legal condition can be restored

After attaching the wiring, the tuning can be switched on and off by plugging and unplugging the box. You can restore the legal (untuned) state of your e-bike by removing the Badass Box and mounting the Shimano sensor on the chain stay, or the original installation situation in the dropout and re-aligning the spoke magnet to it.

More robust than ever

The electrical system of the Badass Box 4 is glued and sealed into the housing with a special potting compound from the automotive industry, making the box more robust and insensitive to moisture than any other Badass Box variant before.

Each individual Badass Box 4 is extensively tested for correct function before and after potting.

How does the Badass Box 4 for Shimano 2020 work?

After mounting, the Badass Box 4 transmits a modified signal to the motor so that the 25 km/h speed limit is outsmarted or cancelled. This happens contact-free, i.e. without electrical connection to the motor and without intervention in the motor electronics. This means that there is no risk of damage.

Please note: Due to this special functional principle, the display of your e-bike will no longer show the correct current speed when tuning is active (=box is plugged in), which also applies to values derived from it. We therefore recommend simply using GPS-capable additional devices such as your smartphone to record the real data. You can attach this directly to your handlebars using special "holders" so that you always have an optimum view of all the riding data.

The Badass Box 4 is powered by an included AAA battery. Thanks to the specially developed and patented FEET (Field Enhancement & Elimination Technology) field amplification technology, you can go very far on one battery. If the battery runs out, it can be easily replaced at any time without tools. Suitable replacement batteries can be found almost everywhere in the trade. It is recommended to replace the battery once a year at the start of the season.

Installation instructions:

There is no need to open the motor for installation; there is no risk of damage. Here we show you how to proceed with the installation:

You will find the integrated Shimano sensor in the area of the dropout. To get access to the sensor, you have to remove the rear wheel. Find the position of the integrated sensor in the dropout of the bike and loosen the screws that fix the sensor:

Now place the sensor in the recess provided on the Badass Box:

Then attach the sensor to the Badass Box using the cylinder head screw supplied (you will need a 2 mm hexagonal spanner / Allen key). Now you can mount the Badass Box together with the sensor to the chain stay using the cable tie supplied.

When mounting the Badass Box for the first time, you have to mount the supplied spoke magnet instead of the original magnet. This spoke magnet works exactly like the original magnet, but it is necessary for the patented field amplification to work when the Badass Box is mounted.

Then reinstall the rear wheel and screw the supplied spoke magnet onto a spoke so that the magnet is facing the Badass Box.You must align the spoke magnet next to the Badass Box. To check the position of the magnet on the e-bike when it is standing still, lift the rear of the bike. Then turn the rear wheel (not the cranks!) and let the bike run. Pay attention to the speedometer or the app of your e-bike: the speed displayed should be even and slowly decrease as the rear wheel rolls out.

If the spoke magnet touches the Badass Box, you must place the spoke magnet as close as possible to the Badass Box and turn it 90°. That's it - now your e-bike is tuned!

If you remove the Badass Box and mount the Shimano sensor on the chain stay, or the original installation situation in the dropout, and align the spoke magnet with it, the e-bike is restored to its untuned (legal) state again.

Important:

Before ordering, please check whether the cable of your sensor can be pulled out of the dropout far enough to attach the sensor to the chain stay in front of the brake disc. Only under this condition the sensor can be used together with the Badass Box.

The Badass Box 4 Shimano 2020 is only compatible with Shimano e-bikes equipped with the Shimano sensor SM-DUE11 integrated in the dropout:

If the sensor integrated in the dropout has the shape of the second sensor, then it is the older SM-DUE10 sensor from Shimano. In this case you need the "Badass Box 4 Shimano X-Set".

If the Shimano SM-DUE10 sensor of your e-bike is easily accessible on the chain stay, you only need the usual "Badass Box 4 for Shimano".
